Who we are
Feed the People is a volunteer-run meal program that's been feeding unhoused Kingstonians for years. No head office, no paid staff, no bureaucracy. It's a network of people who cook, drive, and chip in so that hot food keeps landing at Belle Park.
It started with a handful of volunteers and a bit of food. Homelessness in Kingston went up through the pandemic and hasn't come back down, and the program grew to keep pace. These days a single service can feed well over a hundred people.
Who we serve, and why just Belle Park
We serve the people living at Belle Park. That focus is deliberate. We're 100% volunteer-funded, and that's the whole model. We'd love to feed the entire city, but we don't have the cashflow to do it and do it well. So we put everything we've got into Belle Park, and we point people elsewhere in Kingston toward the other groups who can help.
How it actually works
There's no kitchen at the park, so nothing gets cooked on site. Volunteers prepare big batches of food off-site, someone drives it all over, and a crew sets up and hands it out. It's about as simple as it sounds, and it only happens because people keep choosing to show up.
What we believe
Food is a right. People sleeping rough are our neighbours, not a nuisance to be tidied out of view. Most days the folks running this city don't see them at all. We'd rather be loud about it, and we'd rather everyone got fed.
